A Gift to Help You Grow as a Climber

Converse like you would around a campfire. This is a safe place for share your climbing accomplishments, discuss spiritual matters and/or chat about almost anything. Disagreement is allowed and even encouraged. But getting nasty, mean and inappropriate is not. Thanks and enjoy!

A Gift to Help You Grow as a Climber

By Dan Davies, Media Outreach Director

As we communicated through last year’s theme (and now a signature saying) of “Climb Hard, Love Harder,” it is a good to grow in your competency and ability as climber. To that end, we have a couple of special gifts to offer you in your efforts to grow as a climber.

Due to being an advertiser with Rock and Ice Magazine, we have been able to purchase two small books at an extremely low bulk price. We would like to offer one or the other to you as gift. (Please Note: this is only an offer for USA based folks as shipping to places outside the USA is cost prohibitive. Sorry about that.)

The first book is called “How To Climb” and is targeted toward beginner and intermediate climbers. It covers gear placement, knots, anchors, belaying, rappelling, technique, training, and other relevant topics. Compiled by senior members of the Rock & Ice staff, the presented info is succinct and comprehensive and is helpful for those going from the gym to the crag for the first time.

The second book from Rock and Ice is "Training: Step by Step Instructions for Novice to Pro" by Neil Gresham. Gresham has been on the forefront of training for climbing for over 20 years and does a great job of covering the subject. Chapters include Training 101, Strength, Endurance, Supportive Conditioning, Juniors, Nutrition, Injuries and Training Programs.

If you would like one of these books, you simply need to send me your address through the private message system in the Where Climbers Gather forums. Unless you know your username and password, the easiest way to get into the system is through the lost information form at https://www.srcfc.org/lost-information/.

Once you are in, go to forums and then click new messages, click compose and send a private message to SRCFCMedia. Some of you may need to set up a WCG account for the first time. It’s not as easy as some social media sites, but not difficult, and well worth the effort.

Looking forward to many of you requesting the book and growing in your ability as a climber!
