Solid Rock - Climbers Reaching Climbers for Christ
Two-Minute Message - #42 (
November 30th, 2001)

From Calvin Landrus, National Director

TOPICS: Solid Rock Mini-Outreach Day and National Meeting at Joshua Tree

-----------------------------------------------

This week, I received this email request:

“Do you know any brothers that would be interested in climbing at Joshua Tree on Saturday (Dec.1)? My buddy and I are heading down there, but neither of us know the area well, and we would love to have some fellowship with other climbers.”

I would like to use this as way to continue our thinking about the purpose of Solid Rock.  If all I did was to forward the request out to the email group, would I have been adding to the purpose of Solid Rock?  Remember we exist to Encourage, Equip and Empower climbers to reach climbers for Christ.

What did I do? I contacted the author and asked him if he was willing to make it a “Solid Rock Mini-Outreach Day.”  What did I mean by this?  Before you get out of the car to climb, ask the Lord in a time of prayer to orchestrate your day.

Pray something like this, “Lord, if it’s Your desire that we give witness of You today, please allow us be open to those divinely appointed opportunities that could happen.  Help us to have the boldness and sensitivity as we are “on mission” for You.”

When this is prayed, all you are really doing is asking that the Great Commission, stated by Jesus in Matthew 28, happens.  It says, “Go and make disciples.”  Often we think that only means for those missionaries who have gone to a foreign land.  But I understand that the word “Go” has the meaning of “as you are going.”  For us as Solid Rockers that is saying, “As you go climbing, look for ways to give witness to Jesus our Lord.”

The beauty of this is that it won’t take anymore time, but will give you and I a higher purpose for going climbing!

Well the author agreed to make it Solid Rock Mini-Outreach Day.  And although the time is really too short, contact Mike Haddad at Mike.Haddad@Ronblue.com  and not only go climbing this weekend but be “on mission” for the Lord at Joshua Tree.
