EVENING CAMPFIRE TIMES

On our first night, we had the privilege to have Gary Fallesen, the outdoor writer for the Rochester, NY Democrat and Chronicle share a devotional. He shared the importance of listening to Christ. He brought the point home by sharing his experience on Acconcagua. On Thursday night, Doug Englekirk shared about the important of communicating the gospel to other climbers through having a significant relationship. On Friday night, Chris Cantwell, first ascentist of Hall of Mirrors (a cutting edge climb of the early 80’s), shared how he had sought “immortality” through having his name listed in the back of back of climbing guides. After doing many first ascents, he found Christ. He concluded that all significance as well as eternal life comes through Christ and not through climbing! On Saturday night and we had a time of prayer and worship!

MORNING TRAININGS

For a while, I have been working on a Membership Manual Handbook. The handbook has three sections. The first takes us by 10 carins that mark the path I believe all Solid Rockers need to know to effectively reach climbers. The second section deals has 10 lessons on doing personal evangelism work. Most of the material is directed towards reaching climbers. The last section is a resource section. During the morning sessions, I covered some of the material in the 60-page booklet. Currently, I am working through corrections and improvements seen during this first run. It will soon be available to all Solid Rockers!

DURING THE DAYS

The forty of us who attended had a wide range of differing abilities and agendas. We spent some time each day sharing what climbing we would like to do and then went out and did some climbing. Tuolumne Meadows is such a beautiful to be, let alone climb! We prayed each day for opportunities to share our faith as we climbed. On Saturday afternoon, we did a sports drink distribution. Each bottle had a laser-printed label stuck on it sharing that true adventure comes through Jesus Christ and Solid Rock’s contact information. We gave out over 80 bottles to climbers, including one to climbing legend, TM Herbert. Several spiritual conversions were started including one where the complete gospel was shared. Pray for the climber who heard the gospel and for the other climbers whom had seeds of God’s love sown into their lives.

PICTURES

I really dropped the ball here. I took very few pictures as well failing to ask someone else to. However, Click Here for a few pictures. I’m really proud of a picture of my three kids and I!
