Connecting in Colorado
February 23 to 26
The American Bouldering Series Open National Championship will be held February 24-25 in Colorado Springs. SRCFC sponsored athlete, Matt Fultz, will be competing and SRCFC National Director, Calvin Landrus, will be attending too as a volunteer. This will afford several opportunities to connect and do outreach together along the Front Range.
The first opportunity is scheduled for Thursday afternoon/evening, February 23rd, in the Boulder area. In early afternoon there will be a several hour visit to Movement Climbing Gym (or maybe outside so Matt can look at some of the boulder problems in the area). Then at 4:00 pm, we will meet in the University Memorial Center (UMC) on the UC campus in front of the bookstore. A new contact to Solid Rock will be there who is considering starting either a University of Colorado or Boulder-area Chapter. Solid Rock will buy coffee or light dinner for all and we will be there for couple of hours so arrival later than 4:00 pm is fine.
On Friday and Saturday, we will be in Colorado Springs. The schedule for Matt and Calvin is TBA but if you would like to join us for a meal, just let us know. Also, if you are interested, please consider volunteering for the Championship or even just attending to watch these super strong athletes compete. Learn more at http://www.absnationals.org/index.html.
Sunday, February 26th will be a big day. We will have a climbing day at either Table Mountain and/or Clear Creek Canyon depending on the interest of those coming out and the weather. The day will start with a brunch and worship time in Golden at 10:00 am at the Windy Saddle (1110 Washington Ave). Then we will do some on-mission climbing together, going inside a location TBD if weather is nasty. In the evening, we have the “Matt and Calvin Show”, a bouldering and climbing presentation, at the American Mountaineering Center (710 10th ST, Golden) starting at 7:00 pm. This will be open to the public and so invite your climbing friends by sending them this link http://www.srcfc.org/mattandcalvinshow.pdf.
Finally, Calvin has been working with Steve Potter and Derek Branstrom in the planning of this weekend. Both have served as Front-Range Chapter Coordinators but have limited time right now. If you are interested in leading the Front-Range Chapter, please email Calvin at calvin@srcfc.org so he can schedule a meeting with you while he is in Colorado.
RSVP – To make sure connections can be made, please send your plans, even if they are tentative, to calvin@srcfc.org or text/call 541-408-5846.
